Considering the increase in Covid-19 cases in the state, the Kerala government on Friday announced the suspension of physical classes of school students up to Class 9 till January 21, 2022. This decision was taken in a high level meeting which was chaired by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who further informed that a review meeting is scheduled to be held on February 2, 2022.
Details of school closure
As per the decisions taken in the high-level meeting, schools will only be closed for classes up to Class 9 and students of Classes 10 to12 will continue to facilitate the ongoing inoculation drive for students in the 15-18 age group.
Further, CM Pinarayi Vijayan also issued directions to the health and education departments to coordinate and make concerned arrangements for the vaccination of students of Classes 10-12.
Other directions in the meeting
Along with the directions for school closure, the Kerala CM also issued directions to the concerned authorities to send messages to Sabarimala pilgrimage devotees who had booked for darshan from January 16 to postpone their plans.
The maximum number of permissible devotees is going to be decided post discussion.
Covid-19 situation in Kerala
The state health department of Kerala reported 16338 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours as of Friday.
The department also said that the spread of Covid-19 is maximum in the districts of Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam.
