In a tragic incident, a 51-year-old professor at a research institute lost his life after he was crushed to death under a car driven by an ex-cop who was allegedly learning to drive the car when he hit the professor on Monday.

According to a report published in the Times of India (TOI), the accident took place  on Monday morning around 8.50 AM on New Garia Cooperative Road when the victim, now deceased Sunil Kumar Garai, was returning from the new Garia market where he had gone to buy some vegetables.

As per reports by TOI, Garai was on his bike when he was hit by a car from behind, following which he fell on the road and the car subsequently ran over him.

As per eyewitnesses, he was pressed against a tree and his head got stuck between the engine grille and mudguard.

People present on the spot somehow managed to pull Garai out and rushed him to Peerless hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.

As per reports by TOI, Sk Rehman, a tea shop owner, said that Garai was bleeding profusely on the way to the hospital.

Involvement of an Ex-cop in the accident

As per locals, the car which hit Garai was driven by a former mid-level police officer  who was allegedly learning to drive car when the accident took place.

Locals claimed that the accused had panicked upon seeing Garai’s bike in front of him and, in a state of confusion, he pressed the accelerator instead of brakes, which led to the accident.
