Sri Lanka pacer Isuru Udana has retired from international cricket with immediate effect. Udana last played for his country in the second of the recently concluded three-match T20I series against India. The 33-year old in his statement to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) notified that it was the right time for him to step back and make way for the next generation of players.
“I believe the time has come for me to make way for the next generation of players,” Udana was quoted as saying by Sri Lanka Cricket in a release.
“It is with immense pride and passion, and unfathomable commitment that I have represented and served my country,’’ Udana added.
After making his debut in 2009, Udana featured in the 2009 ICC T20 World Cup and 2019 Cricket World Cup in his career spanning 12 years. However, he has played in just a total of 21 ODIs and 34 T20 internationals for his country in this period, taking 18 and 27 wickets respectively.
In this period, Udana also got an IPL contract with the Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore and played 10 games in the 2020 edition, taking eight wickets at an economy of 9.72.
