Students of Lucknow University asked to vacate hostels and return home as Covid cases rise

Amid the third wave of Covid-19, the University of Lucknow has announced a slew of measures to safeguard its students against the virus. The university has also asked to start free Covid testing and Covid vaccination camps in its campus for the benefit of the students and the teaching and non-teaching staff.

The decision was taken by the university after many hostel students were infected with the virus and showed symptoms like fever and cold.

The decision to vacate the first-semester undergraduate and postgraduate hostels has been made considering many students falling prey to Covid and many showing symptoms like cold, cough and fever.

Earlier, the University has announced suspending offline classes from January 8 till January 16, 2022. The decision was taken by the authority following a government order, in view of the COVID-19 situation in the state.

Covid restrictions by the government

With students returning to home, they would be more isolated and safe according to the university administration. However, several media reports have claimed that the decision to close down hostels for 1st semester students was taken after several students started showing flu like symptoms due to the prevailing cold-wave in the city.

While many students are showcasing symptoms such cold, cough and fever; not many have been identified as infected with the virus so far.
