England and Rajasthan Royals wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler pulled out from the second phase of the IPL 2021 to spend time with his wife, who gave birth to their second daughter in the first week of September. The Royals roped in explosive West Indies opener Evin Lewis as his replacement.
Buttler scored his maiden IPL hundred in the last game for Royals against the Sunrisers Hyderabad before the season got suspended as he amassed 254 runs in seven games.
Ben Stokes
Star England all-rounder Ben Stokes, who featured in just one game for the Rajasthan Royals in the first half of IPL 2021 had injured his finger and was ruled out of the season and cricketing action for a long time and now he has taken time off from the game to prioritise his mental well-being.
Royals replaced Stokes with West Indian fast bowler Oshane Thomas, as the England cricketer will be unavailable for the UAE leg.
Jonny Bairstow
England wicket-keeper batsman Jonny Bairstow too pulled out from the second leg of the 2021 edition of the IPL at the last minute when the Indian and England players were set to leave England last week from Manchester citing personal reasons. Sunrisers Hyderabad signed West Indies middle-order batsman Sherfane Rutherford as his replacement, who was in fine form for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in CPL 2021.
Jofra Archer
Jofra Archer, who didn’t take part in the first half of the IPL 2021 will remain unavailable for the second half as well after being ruled out for the whole year from cricketing action due to an elbow injury. It was a third big blow for the Rajasthan Royals and they signed New Zealand attacking batsman Glenn Phillips as his replacement.
Pat Cummins
Australian pacer and Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) big-ticket buy Pat Cummins, for whom they splurged INR 15.5 crore, made himself unavailable for the second phase since he and his wife Becky Boston are expecting their first child. KKR roped in veteran New Zealand pacer Tim Southee as his replacement for the remaining matches.
