ttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has reached out to BJP supporters following the recent incidents of violence in Kushinagar and Gorkahpur. The BJP leader sought to reassure the party workers and asked them not to be afraid.
In Kushinagar, a Muslim man was allegedly lynched by his neighbours for supporting the BJP and distributing sweets after the party’s poll victory in the state last month. While in Gorakhpur, a security personnel stationed at the Gorakhnath temple was attacked on Sunday. Keshav Prasad Maurya claimed that the attacks were carried out by some radicals.
“This is not Pakistan,” Keshav Maurya said, adding that the BJP-led government in UP is keeping an eye on those who are behind the attacks.
Speaking to India Today on Wednesday, Keshav Maurya said,” People supported BJP because the party works for the minorities. But some people were angered by that.”
The BJP leader reached out to party workers and said that they need not panic. He claimed, “This is the reaction of those who can’t accept defeat (in the UP polls).”
He further added, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath do not work after considering if the person is Hindu or Muslim.”
Keshav Maurya praised the Uttar Pradesh Police for being alert and preventing the attack in Gorakhpur.
“I congratulate the police for preventing the attackers from carrying out such an incident. Stopping (the attackers) from carrying out the incident is also a big deal,” the BJP leader said.
Referring to the incidents of violence, Keshav Maurya said, “I want to tell those who have this type of mentality, the government in India and in Uttar Pradesh is not of Manmohan Singh, and Akhilesh Yadav, where people can continue to say and do whatever they want.
